International Women’s Day

International Women’s Day was acknowledged on March 8th at Benowa State High School with a mini event in the Library. School Captain Melissa and Kristina gave inspiring speeches to an audience of IB students and other interested pupils during break-time. The girls talked about the significance of how International Womens’ Day resonated with them in their lives as girls, as female students and as school leaders. They talked about future career and lifestyle opportunities and stereotypes. Tune in to the school website to hear an audio recording of these impressive young public speakers with their outstanding oratory skills! The Library ran a display of diverse fiction titles featuring female protagonists for all reading interests, plus a selection of Biographies about various women and girls. As a further activity, students watched a ‘print to screen’  viewing of the inspiring movie, ‘Soul Surfer’, about a young girl overcoming adversity.
