Parent/Teacher Interviews

In previous years interim reports have been issued with the intent of providing information regarding student progress during the first term of school. These reports have not indicated a level of achievement due to the problematic nature of combining the timelines of reports within different subjects, different time allocations across subjects and year levels within a timetable and contrasting senior syllabus requirements across subjects. The reports contained results for effort and behaviour which were often misinterpreted as being indicative of student achievement. Whilst general comments were supplied in these reports, it could not replace the face to face effectiveness of a Parent-Teacher interview regarding student performance and ways of improvement.

As a result, the Semester 1 interim reporting structure in 2016 will reflect the same format as in the previous two years. In order to highlight the importance of Parent-Teacher interviews and strengthen relationships between parents, students and teachers there will be two evenings of Parent-Teacher interviews for Years 7-12.  These evenings will occur on Wednesday, 20 April and Thursday, 21 April, commencing at 3.00pm and finishing at 7.00pm in the Sports Hall and Performing Arts Centre. Interview timeslots will be reduced to 10 minute slots to allow for increased booking numbers. Bookings are not required for Care Groups, just curriculum subject teachers.

A formal interim report on school letterhead will not be issued in Term 1. End of Semester 1 and Semester 2 reports will continue to be done in the same format and timeframe as previous years which include an overall achievement, effort and bbehaviour result and teacher comments. I strongly encourage you to book a Parent-Teacher interview with your student's teachers by logging onto. Information on how to book interview times is attached to this letter. If you are unable to complete your bookings, please phone the administration office on 07 5582 7333. booking an interview will allow you to gain a more informative understanding of how your student is achieving at this point in time.

A deeper understanding of student progress will include such matters as completion of classwork/homework, assessment completion and standard of response, informal formative assessments undertaken during class time, application and commitment to learning and class relationships. such topics as these can be discussed dirng this time and improvement focussed strategies for the student put into place.

I re-iterate the importance of making the time to book a meeting with your student's teachers to ensure we are working toward establishing both a successful partnership between home and school and a clear future educational pathway for the student.
