Events @ the Library

‘World Read Aloud Day’ is a world wide school celebration of the ‘spoken word’ on behalf of the 758 million people globally who can’t read. Students and teachers share a short 1-2 minute published or original piece of writing such as a poem, a play script, a passage from a favourite book or story, or spoken song lyrics. On Thursday 16th February, the Benowa State High School Library came alive with ‘word power’ as our English teachers kick started this annual event, each with a powerful oratory delivery that kept students spellbound. Many thanks to Mr Pickersgill and Mr McKee for their enactment of ‘The Crucible’ and to Mr Grieco for being MC and his spoken word performance of ‘Casey at the Bat’ by Ernest Thayer, a baseball poem that whilst written in 1888  still resonates with young people today!
