Year 10 Immunisation

Year 10 Immunisations will take place on Tuesday, 29 May 2018 in Periods to 3 (9.00am to 10.40am) in K block.

This year the free school vaccine program will again provide protection against four strains of meningococcal disease for Year 10 students.

Meningococcal ACWY Vaccine

The meningococcal bacteria invades the body from the throat or nose, causing a severe, rapidly progressive disease.

For every 100 people infected about 10-15 will die and up to 20 more will develop limb deformities, skin scarring, deafness and/or loss of brain function.

The main meningococcal strains are A,B,C,W and Y. recently in Australia meningococcal W and Y cases have increased. The meningococcal vaccine children had at twelve months of age does not protect against these strains.

The bacteria is more commonly found in teenagers and young adults and can be passed on by close contact.

The vaccine is safe and effective and only one dose is needed.
