Year 10, 2016 BYOD

21/10/2015
The Year 9 BYOD information evening was held on Tuesday 27 October. Please follow the links below to view information from this night.

Over the past two years your students has been able to participate in the 21st Century educational environment where they have had access to online tools and resources. Students have carried with them, and have available at their fingertips, almost unlimited access to multimedia content, reference material, online experts and collaborative spaces. However in 2016 the capacity of the school to offer this service is no longer available. Instead in its place I am pleased to be able offer the opportunity for your students to be part of a Bring Your Own 'D' (BYOD) model for technology access in 2016.

"Bring Your Own 'D'” refers to the Department of Education, Training and Employment teaching and learning environment that allow students to utilise their privately owned devices to assist with their learning. The beauty of this model is that there is no one size fits all approach to BYOD. With the flexibility this program now provides we are implementing changes for the future where students will be able to engage in learning with the freedom to use almost any personal device that can access the Wi-Fi network, as well the departmental network and information systems (including print service).

A key advantage of the BYOD program is that students have more choice in the technology they use to conduct their learning. As these devices are privately owned, students will take it home with them and can personalise the settings on their device to suit their learning style and individual needs.

During our transition period in 2016 for current Year 9 students, our school's BYOD program will see a range of options available to all year levels across the school. Students may bring a device they already have at home. This must meet the minimum specification requirements as outlined in our school's BYOD Information Guide. For families considering purchasing a new device, please refer to the minimum and recommended specifications found on our school's website. The opportunity currently exists for students to continue to access the school's current laptop 'Day Use' fleet, however, these devices will be out of warranty and in excess of three years old.

Benowa State High School is committed to enhancing your student's educational experience, improve student learning and educational outcomes.
