Industrial technology and design

Industrial technology and design (ITD) is designed to offer students a high level of practical work, interests, motivates and encourages students to undertake further personal development, training and education in a range of areas related to the trade and engineering industry.

Junior Secondary

In year 8, students are introduced to Design in Technology (DIT). In DIT, students experience woodwork, plastics and design. In support of the school’s literacy initiatives, students complete related theory with emphasis on tool recognition, materials, processes and safety. Students make a wooden pencil case, acrylic dish and ball bearing game. They also design and make a project of their choice.

In year 9, three subjects are offered.

  • Design in technology
  • Practical woodwork
  • Graphics

In DIT, students make projects such as co2 racers, metal projects and bridge design. In practical woodwork, students make small furniture items, a soccer game and their negotiated design choices. Graphics leads to an authority subject in the senior phase (OP). In Graphics, students spend 95% of the time on computers creating 2D and 3D drawings using Autocad, Archicad, Inventor, and Prodesktop.

Senior Secondary

In years 10, 11 and 12 students can choose from four subjects.

  • Graphics
  • Manufacturing furnishings
  • Manufacturing engineering

Graphics is an authority subject (OP) for university entrance. Graphics covers a wide range of opportunities in many employment areas such as engineering, surveying, architecture, graphic design and trade orientated fields.

The two manufacturing subjects are all worth four credit points for QCE and are not certificate 1 courses which only offer two points. The school already offers extra pathways for students to study certificate courses at out nearby TAFE on Fridays. Many of our students do TAFE and our manufacturing subjects.

It is expected that all workshop students wear non porous shoes. No canvas uppers permitted.
