Congratulations Benowa State High School

Winner of the Queensland 2020 Peter Doherty ‘Outstanding School STEM Award’

This award acknowledges our school’s excellence in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) Education as Queensland’s 2020 outstanding school. The award is based on our STEM Excellence program in Years 7-9 and initiatives including our STEM Conference, Education Perfect Science School World Champions (multiple times), student work in coding, robotics, drones and aviation and of course our annual time with NASA in the USA.  Our students were recognised for their application of STEM skills in open ended, inquiry based investigations with negotiated assessment designed to showcase student strengths and personal interests.

Our program has extended support to 5 of our local primary schools with the guidance of Griffith University’s  Dr Harry Kanasa (our School Council Chair). He has been a driving force in our partnership with students in primary schools and the partnership with Griffith University has also spearheaded collaboration in our important teacher professional learning teams.

STEM Excellence is a wonderful school based program and in Mr Keen’s design and with the support of Mr Grignon, it has grown to become a program of important significance in our state. Congratulations to our dedicated teachers and wonderful students.
