I wish to inform you of Department of Education (DoE) advice that Benowa State High school will be closed to students other than those of essential workers and vulnerable students commencing next Monday, 24 January 2022. Year 11/12 commence online learning from 31 January 2022 and all students Years 7-12 return to the school site on Monday 7 February 2022.
Parents who are essential workers may choose to send their student(s) to school from Monday 24 January 2022 and vulnerable students can also commence on site on this date. Students of essential workers and vulnerable students who are onsite will be supervised and access the https://education.qld.gov.au/curriculum/learning-at-home materials. Students are required to bring their charged laptop to school everyday.
The DoE website currently says “… an essential worker is someone who provides essential services and who is unable to work from home. This includes but is not limited to doctors, nurses and other front-line medical staff, retail workers, haulage drivers and police officers”.
Students of essential workers and vulnerable students are to be ‘dropped off’ at the school Mediterranean Drive entrance in the week of 24 January. We appreciate this is challenging for many new Year 7 students, so Deputy Principals will be on duty at this gate to meet new students, verify student details and escort students to planned supervision.
Parents of students in Years 7-10
Please be advised that up to 7 February, your student(s) can access the Qld Government website for year level appropriate learning materials. Teachers will not be providing online learning for students in Years 7-10 because DoE has determined that these students are to access the learning-at-home materials.
Year 7 Parents will be provided this week with an email that details the login and password to ”onboard’ their student’s laptop to our school Managed Operating Environment (MOE).
Parents of students in Years 11-12
Monday 31 January, teachers will commence contact with their Year 11/12 students and begin online teaching that will align with lesson times, based on staff/student 2022 timetables. The lesson structure of the timetable will operate from 9am to 2:45pm and it also includes a roll mark of student’s attendance in lessons. We are awaiting detail of the roll mark procedure from DoE and will provide this as soon as possible to parents/carers and students. Senior students in VET courses will be provided with detail on course access from our outside providers, as soon as possible.
Current 2022 timetables will be available on Compass on Wednesday 19 January 2022. Classes may be subject to change depending on new student enrolments.
