Hello Everyone - another week closer we hope to relaxation around COVID-19 restrictions.

We continued this week to hold our assemblies ‘online’ around the school on Wednesday mornings and this model of highlighting student performances has been terrific. If your student has featured in these assemblies, please congratulate them from all of us.

The Department of Education yesterday announced the re-commencement of sport in Queensland state schools.  Whilst we will not be participating in any interschool sport, all regional and state sport opportunities will be open to Benowa SHS students. As in past years we will be advertising trial dates on our school website and in student notices when they are advertised.

We are now very pleased to be able to inform you that students selected to participate in the Sports Excellence trials for Year 7 entry in 2021 will take place on Friday, 17 July from 9:00am until 2:30pm.  Families will drop their students at the Mediterranean Drive entrance to the school between 8:30am and 8:55am where students will be escorted to a V Block classroom for attendance recording. Students at the end of the day will be returned to parents at Mediterranean Drive at 2:30pm. Please ensure your child wears their primary school Sports Uniform, and that they bring a hat, water bottle and food for lunch breaks.

A special thank you to our senior TIP (The Inter-year Project) leaders who are in their coloured tip leader shirts on Mondays and continuing to support our junior secondary students on their return to school through a range of their peer support strategies … great young Australians!

A focus at the moment on our senior students driving in and around the school with numerous community complaints about dangerous and unpredictable driving. The memory of one of our students killed in his car after a training session lives clearly in my mind and I would ask that every parent please remind students that their ‘show off’ moments can have catastrophic consequences. I understand that a number of families have had police visits in the last two weeks based on number plate reports and videos of students driving.

Thank you to everyone for your support. Please stay safe.
