Industrial Technology and Design offers students a high level of practical work, and is orientated to areas related to the design occupations, trades and engineering industry.
Junior Secondary
In Years 7 and 8, students are introduced to Design in Technology (TID). In TID, students experience woodwork, plastics and design. In support of the school's literacy initiatives, students complete related theory with emphasis on tool recognition, materials, processes and safety. Students make a wooden pencil case, acrylic dish and ball bearing game. They also design and make a project of their choice.
In Year 9, three subjects are offered.
- Design and Technologies (DAT)
- Materials and Technologies Specialisations (TMT)
- Graphics (GPX)
In DAT, students make projects such as co2 racers, metal projects and bridge design. In TMT, students make small wood working items, and negotiated design choices. In Graphics, students spend 95% of the time on computers creating 2D and 3D drawings using Autocad, Archicad and Inventor.
Senior Secondary
In Years 10, 11 and 12 students can choose from three applied subjects.
- Industrial Graphics Skills
- Furnishing Skills
- Engineering Skills
Industrial Graphics covers a wide range of opportunities in many employment areas, especially trade orientated fields and engineering, surveying, architecture, and graphic design.
Furnishing Skills students create a range of furniture items and use a range of machines and portable power tools. It is a trade orientated subject.
Engineering Skills students are expected to wear overalls at all times to protect themselves from arc, MIG and oxy welding and other engineering tasks on engineering machines. It is a trade orientated subject.
It is expected that all workshop students wear nonporous shoes. No canvas uppers permitted.
