SITXFSA001: Use hygienic practices for food safety and SITHFAB005: Prepare and serve expresso coffee

Qualification Description

The Barista demonstrates to employers that the student has learnt to make coffee to an acceptable standard. This qualification provides the knowledge and training required to work in various hospitality settings such as restaurants, hotels, motels, clubs, pubs, cafes and coffee shops. The unit of competency is part of the SIT20316 Certificate II Hospitality package delivered at Benowa SHS. Our very own staff, who engage with Industry, train students to gain the expertise required to carry out this skill set.

Entry Requirements

The cost will be invoiced to your child’s account once you return the enrolment form to Sarah Price, HoD of Senior Schooling / RTO Manager. Payment details and further course information will then be emailed to students and parents. Please note: before a student can be considered for participation, all overdue invoices must be paid up to date

Expectations

Students will:

  • Be on-time and complete work set for the competency
  • Do not leave until the course is completed or without teacher permission. If students leave early, they will not gain competency. No refunds are given.

Duration and Location

This course, is a full day course delivered at Benowa State High School. During the day, starting at 8.55am and finishing at 2.45pm, students will complete training, a workbook and practical assessments. 

Fees

The course costs $80 per student. Course Unit

To attain a Barista qualification students must complete two units of competency:

BARISTA

SITXFSA001: Use hygienic practices for food safety 

and 

SITHFAB005: Prepare and serve expresso coffee

RTO Obligation

Benowa SHS guarantees that the student will be provided with every opportunity to complete the qualification. We do not guarantee employment upon completion of this qualification.

Students who are deemed competent in the two units of competency will be awarded the Barista. The student will receive a statement of attainment.

Delivery Modes

A range of delivery modes will be used during the teaching and learning of this qualification. These include:

  • Face to face instruction
  • Work-based learning
  • Guided learning
  • Online training

Assessment

Assessment is competency based and completed in a simulated hospitality environment. Assessment techniques include: observation, folios of work, written and practical tasks, questioning, projects.

Work Placement

Students do not complete work placement for this unit of competency.

This qualification may articulate into:

  • SIT20316 Certificate II Hospitality
  • Work in the Hospitality Industry
