Our music curriculum is designed to deepen student knowledge and understanding of music in order to extend their capacity and application in the dimensions of performance, composition and analysis of music.

What is Music Excellence?

Music Excellence is designed to stimulate and ignite each child’s awareness of and response to music.

A plethora of experiences are provided from the early beginning of beat and movement to the understanding of and capacity to express musical thoughts and ideas as a composer, performer and musicologist. Students learn and apply musical concepts to advanced levels through instrumental and vocal performance, composition, aural and visual analysis. Students gain skills on guitar, keyboard and voice while still developing skills on their own instrument/s. Technology is integrated throughout, catering for all young musicians.

Music Excellence students are expected to participate in at least one of the school’s many instrumental or choral ensembles in preparation for Music Extension Studies senior years.

The complementary Instrumental Music Tuition Program provides students with an option of a small group lesson with an expert instrumental teacher. This program is devised to strengthen technique and expand musical expression of all individuals who participate. The results are evident in the large number of Benowa musicians who regularly achieve great success at ensemble and eisteddfod level.

Student performance is monitored regularly and the school holds high expectations around work ethic, application and behaviour.  Students must display appropriate behaviour and effort across all subjects whilst in this program.

Note: The school in consultation with families reserves the right to withdraw students from this program at any time.
